Richard Scott

Richard Scott (b. 1968, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom) is a British-born artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Known for his distinctive style often described as "Naïve meets Pop," Scott has developed a highly recognisable visual language characterised by bold outlines, vibrant colour, and playful, emotive subject matter.

Scott began his career as a technical illustrator and IT specialist before committing to art full-time in 2001. Since then, he has built an extensive international following, with collectors across Europe, the United States, and beyond. His work spans painting, printmaking, drawing, and sculpture, reflecting a prolific and multidisciplinary practice.

Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Scott's subject matter ranges from his iconic female figures and "Candy Girls" to trees, animals, and urban motifs. His signature use of strong black line and expressive colour gives his work an immediate visual impact, balancing humour, nostalgia, and bold graphic simplicity.

Over the past two decades, Scott has exhibited widely in South Africa and internationally, with shows across the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States. His work is held in private collections worldwide, with a significant proportion of his output acquired by international collectors.
